Dr Shantanu Singh - Senior Economist

Shantanu is one of Alma’s Senior Economists, contributing to our research efforts with his extensive experience in applied microeconomics, policy evaluation, and growth and development.

Before joining our ranks, Shantanu led research initiatives at various UK-based and international financial institutions and universities. As a Research fellow at LSE, he notably undertook a project supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) exploring the UK and Indian Fintech ecosystems, mainly leading work on innovation and technology.

Shantanu’s enthusiasm for the cutting edge initially led him to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Following his BSc in that field, he completed a tenure as a data analyst at a global investment bank, an experience which helped spark a keen interest in economics. He went on to do an MSc in Economics at LSE before earning a PhD on Innovation, Spillovers and Labour Markets at the University of Warwick.

Driven as he is, Shantanu also finds fulfilment outside of his research. He's always on the hunt for the next big thing in London's pop-up restaurant scene and delights in exploring and experimenting with new cuisines.
