Nick Spyropoulos – Managing Director

As Managing Director, Nick leads Alma’s work across the three pillars of its operations: research, software development and communications.

He has over two decades of experience in public policy at the national, international and local level. Nick has delivered major projects for almost all UK government departments, for the Welsh Government, the Scottish Government, and councils across the country.

Overseas, Nick has advised national governments in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as supranational organisations such as the World Bank, the European Commission, UNICEF, OECD and the WHO, providing independent economic analysis and evidence-based recommendations on issues ranging from tax policy to youth mobility and renewable energy.

Prior to Alma, Nick worked as an economic adviser in the UK Civil Service, holding key positions in HM Treasury, HM Revenue and Customs, and the Cabinet Office, including in the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit and the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit. He holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Warwick.

Tasked with helping ensure he maintains a healthy work-life balance are Nick’s two young daughters and their recently arrived baby brother. In return, Nick provides them with semi-structured training on diverse topics, such as the mechanics of pinball machine scoring and why winning isn’t everything for Arsenal FC.
