What we do

Alma Economics combines unparalleled analytical expertise with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.

We are a team of economists, social researchers, data scientists, developers and creatives working together on critical issues facing our society today. Our work spans multiple policy areas, including education, health and social care, housing and homelessness, the environment, public finance, and international development, among others.

Our diverse staff combine decades of experience in economic and social research at the highest levels with the ability to develop state-of-the-art tech tools and powerful communications.

We work with some of the most forward-thinking organisations in the voluntary, public, and private sectors. Our clients include most UK government departments, the Welsh Government, the Scottish Government, councils across the country, arms-length bodies, and several leading charities.

Internationally, we work with major supranational organisations including the World Bank, UNICEF, the WHO, the OECD, and the European Commission, as well as a number of national governments in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior IT and Security Manager to lead the oversight, development and improvement of our IT systems and infrastructure. This is a hands-on role where you’ll take ownership of the technologies that support our day-to-day operations and long-term goals. It is an opportunity to shape the future of Alma Economics while growing your own career.

The role will offer additional variety and challenge. You will take ownership of foundational IT functions, managing our Microsoft 365 setup and broader toolset, ensuring our systems and processes are effective and fit for purpose. You will lead and deliver a clear and ambitious IT strategy, evaluating and recommending new technology solutions that support our goals. You will drive key IT projects, cloud migration, and automation efforts, while also enhancing our information, cyber and architectural security and maintaining GDPR compliance. You will lead and grow our IT team, providing guidance and support as the function evolves. The role spans multiple jurisdictions, including the UK, US, Greece, and beyond.

Who we want to work with

We’re looking for an ambitious and forward thinking Senior IT and Security Manager to lead transformative projects and shape the future of our technology landscape. You’ll bring both strategic vision and hands-on expertise, helping us scale our systems, improve security, and harness innovation to support meaningful work.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy variety and autonomy - one day planning a cloud migration strategy, the next refining our security posture or rolling out enterprise-wide system upgrades. You’ll work closely with leadership and have real influence on the direction of our IT operations, making decisions that directly support the business and the people in it. You will do this whilst supporting our wider research, communication and technology teams to help deliver meaningful and important work for our clients.

We want to work with someone who’s proactive, collaborative, and curious - someone who balances technical rigour with creativity and can lead a team through change with clarity and confidence. Your ideas and ambition matter here. The successful candidate will thrive in a culture where we value what you can do, with an ongoing emphasis on your professional growth and development.
